The dental assisting program is 13 weeks long. Classes run four days a week (Monday – Thursday) for three hours per day. The total number of clock hours are 153.
Our externship program is optional not required. Typically, externships are unpaid, and we understand that not everyone has the resources to complete one. It is still possible to obtain employment without completing and externship. If you are interested in completing one Altrain Dental will find you a location at no additional charge. The externships are a minimum of 100 hours. If you select this option, the total program hours will increase from 153 to 253+.
X-ray Certification and Exam Preparation
X-ray Certification is the number one entry level job requirement to become a dental assistant. Our program includes 48 hours of radiology training with 24 hours of this time dedicated to preparing you for the Dental Assisting National Board written exam. The x-ray training is done both on film and digitally. The exam fees are included in the tuition and you can sit in any x-ray lecture at any time at no charge to hear the information again. Arizona no longer has a clinical exam for radiology but Altrain still prepares you as if it required. All of our students are able to take a passing set of full mouth x-rays.
Coronal Polish Certification and Exam Preparation
Coronal Polish is a license to polish teeth. This exam has a written and clinical portion. 12 hours of the curriculum is dedicated to preparing you for the exam and completing the clinical portion. The Dental Assisting National Board exam fees are included in the tuition and you can sit in on lecture at any time at no charge to refresh on the information.
Dentrix Software Training (Front and Back Office)
Altrain Dental Assisting Academy cross-trains our students for both front and back office. This allows them more job opportunities and more variety. We spend one week teaching you Dentrix (the dental software program) for front office functions and use the software throughout the program to teach you the back-office functions (charting).
Job Placement Assistance
Our job placement assistance program is amazing! We run anywhere between an 80 – 90% job placement rate. We know your success is our success and happy employed students talk! We prepare your resume and cover letter, give you a three-hour presentation on how to find a job, how it works, mock interviews and coaching, professional head shots and direct placement leads.
Tutoring and Refresher Courses
Altrain Dental Assisting Academy offers tutoring and refresher courses at no charge to you. Any student past or present can sit in on lectures for anything related to exams at any time. Clinical refreshers will be discussed with Instructors and either done at the school or on an externship.
Dental Office Setting
All of our equipment is in good working order and up to date with technology. Our facility includes a classroom, a dental lab and four treatment rooms. A typically day at Altrain is about half the class period in lecture and the other half in lab. The lab portion is performed in the dental office setting, where you will practice with instruments, materials and equipment that you will use and see in the field.
American Heart Association CPR Certification (Adult, Children and Infants)
CPR Certification is a required certification for employment in a dental office. Most offices require that you are certified by the American Heart Association. The training is included in the program and the certification is good for 2 years.
The tuition includes everything and is affordable. All books, lab materials, handouts, uniforms, job placement assistance, CPR certification, state exam fees for x-ray certification, coronal polish certification and Dentrix Software Training.
